Services
At Paradox NR, we take on project efforts as our own.
We have worked with most of our clients for more than 5 years - a testament to our ability to provide value and partnership. We have worked on a wide variety of project assignments over the years that have required an extensive range of skillsets. Our core expertise falls within the areas below.
Project Permitting
We have broad experience in preparation of permit application packages, and with shepherding them thorough the regulatory process to project approval.
Fisheries
Our fisheries experience includes work in Alaska, California, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington in streams, rivers, lakes, estuaries and marine habitats.
Work with Agencies and Tribes
We have worked with and on behalf of a number of state and federal agencies and Tribes including: USACE, NMFS, USFWS, and the USFS at the federal level; state water boards, fish and game departments, state lands agencies, and pollution control agencies in a number of states; and with Tribes and Native Corporations in Alaska, Idaho, and Washington. At times we have interacted with these entities primarily in a negotiation role on behalf of our clients, and in others as their scientific and regulatory experts.
NEPA/SEPA Documents
We have worked on teams preparing Environmental Impact Statements, Environmental Assessments, and Categorical Exemptions under the federal National Environmental Protection Act, typically serving as lead preparers for sections related to terrestrial and aquatic environments and species. At the state level we have served as lead or contributing authors of Environmental Impact Statements under state environmental protection act rules in California and Washington.
Forestry and Forest Ecosystems
We hold a Registered Professional Forester license in California, and have worked on Timber Harvest Plans, Option A analyses, and Sustainable Yield demonstrations required under California law. We have conducted watershed analysis studies on more than 480,000 acres of timberlands in the Pacific Northwest to determine the condition of forest, riparian and stream habitats, and to develop management approaches to protect plant and animal species within them.
Environmental Monitoring and Compliance
Our environmental monitoring and compliance work includes water quality sampling at construction sites and forest roads; fish, marine mammal and seabird monitoring of in-water construction projects; stormwater sampling required under water quality permits; and field verification that required protection measures for erosion control, stormwater, fire control and dust abatement are in place and working.
Litigation Support and Testimony
We have provided technical support, including expert testimony, to law firms in Denver, Boise, Sacramento, San Francisco, Seattle and Texas for clients trying to obtain permits from government agencies, or that face litigation under the ESA, CWA, CERCLA/SARA or state environmental statues. Our work has included coordination of technical teams; preparation of declarations, filings, and confidential briefings; support for settlement negotiations with agencies and environmental NGOs; document review and depositions during discovery; and expert testimony for court proceedings.
Graphic Design and Public Presentations
We have broad experience in preparing brochures, public information pieces, scientific posters, and advertisements for ourselves and our clients. We have also prepared many informational posters and handouts to support public presentations and events to obtain public comments on proposed project permits, either in support of others, or as part of our role in leading stakeholder outreach events.
Teaming Partners
Our partners provide expertise in wetlands, geology, GIS, and the preparation of a variety of state and federal regulatory documents. We have longstanding relationships with all the firms and individuals we work with, giving our clients assurance that all work done by our teams will meet the same high levels of quality and professionalism.
